What we do

We specialise in producing worktops for kitchens, vanity tops and shower cladding for bathrooms, bespoke hearths, fireplaces and natural stone and porcelain flooring using an extensive selection of crafted materials and products, including granite, marble and man-made stone. We also offer a stone refurbishment service and project management should you require it.

How we work with our customers

The steps below will help you understand the processes involved and enable us to advise you on any pre-planning and site visits required. Once we have established exactly what you are looking to achieve we will prepare a detailed quote for the work involved.

Obtaining your quote

  • If you are re-fitting either a kitchen or bathroom and have worked out a design or layout, or already know the sizes of the worktops or stonework you need, then we suggest you come and visit us here at The Marble Workshop to talk through your ideas and see the wide variety of materials and colours we have here on site*
  • For other items such as floors, hearths and fireplaces, or any project where you wish to use or specify stone we suggest you call us first and if necessary we can arrange to meet you on site to discuss your requirements in more detail – see Site Survey note below.
  • Alternatively should you already know the material and/or colour you want to use you can send us an email with a plan of your kitchen or bathroom and we will work out a cost for the work and materials involved and send you a quote.

*Reserve your Slab: We offer a personal service where you can view our vast granite and quartz stock to decide on the best colour option for your work surfaces. If you are not ready to go ahead we can reserve your chosen material for a small holding fee.

Site Survey

If necessary we can carry out a site survey to discuss your specific requirements; we will guide you through all the essential details to ensure your worktops, or other items are manufactured exactly to specification.

For example for a kitchen, a survey will ensure details such as sink, taps, draining grooves and hob are all located in the best positions. Also at this stage, a health and safety assessment will be carried out to make sure your worktop can be installed without any risk to personnel or damage to your property.

Templating and Preparation

  • Once you have your quote and have chosen the material we will arrange for someone from our experienced team to visit your home or premises to prepare accurate templates and discuss your requirements.
  • To ensure the best quality and service, all worktops require an initial template to be produced. This can only take place once all cabinet units including under mounted sinks are in situ. (see below – ‘Preparing for your template’)
  • The Marble Workshop uses both traditional templating methods using ply board, as well as laser templating and this process will be carried out by the very best, fully qualified professionals.
  • Supply only service. Should you wish to supply your own templates ( using your own installers and fitters) we also offer a supply only service. Once you deliver your templates or dimensions to us we will manufacture your pieces to your specific requirements. This usually takes 5-10 working days. You can then arrange to collect your bespoke pieces from our workshop, or we can arrange to deliver them to your premises. (This may incur a transportation charge).

Preparing for your template To make sure we supply you with the best service the following need to be in place before templating.

New Installations

  1. All base cabinets need to be in their final position, fixed and completely level with all end panels in place. Once the templating has been carried out it is very important that the units are not moved.
  2. Sinks need to be on site when we template, if you have an under-mounted sink this needs to be in position. In some cases you will need a cradle inside the cabinet to hold the under-mounted sink; your kitchen fitter should do this. On some occasions we may need to bring a sink back to the workshop. Sink cut outs are always made to manufacturer’s guidelines, unless otherwise specified.
  3. The hob will need to be on site when we template. If you are having a flush fitting hob we will need to bring the hob back to the workshop.
  4. If you have a range or Aga this will need to be in position when we template.

Replacing existing worktops

  1. Your old worktops need to be removed before we template. The Marble Workshop do not normally undertake this service, but may be able to advise.
  2. All cabinets need to be re-fixed and level.
  3. Sinks need to be on site when we template. If you have an under-mounted sink this needs to be in position. In some cases you will need a cradle inside the cabinet to hold the under-mounted sink. On some occasions we may need to bring a sink back to the workshop. Sink cut outs are always made to manufacturer’s guidelines, unless otherwise specified.
  4. The hob will need to be on site when we template. If you are having a flush fitting hob we will need to bring the hob back to the workshop
  5. If you have a range or Aga this will need to be in position when we template.

Reinforcing Bars

For both new installations and replacement worktops our granite worktops are fitted with reinforcing bars positioned underneath the surface, wherever applicable. These provide extra strength where the worktop may be more prone to weakening, for example around hob and sink cut outs.

Installation

The installation stage is an immensely rewarding part of any project – seeing a room transformed is hugely satisfying for both installers and customer.

Once approval and customer go-ahead have been received, templates are immediately put into production. With our high standards of templating, craftsmanship and years of experience in fitting thousands of stone surfaces our dedicated and fully qualified teams of fitters will work quickly and with minimal disruption. They will take as much time as needed to ensure a perfect installation is achieved; aiming to fit your worktops 7-10 working days after your template is first produced.

Once on site and installed your granite worktops will be sealed for a second time to ensure a top quality finish.

Important Note
The Marble Workshop do not undertake any plumbing or electrical work. This is the responsibility of the client to arrange.
